Action timeline

October 13, 1970 – The unarmored threespine stickleback was listed as endangered under the precursor to the federal Endangered Species Act.

November 17, 1980 – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed to designate critical habitat for the unarmored threespine stickleback.

December 26, 1985 – The Service published a recovery plan for the stickleback.

January 11, 2002 – The Center filed a lawsuit to protect habitat for the stickleback, since the Service had failed to finalize its more than 20-year-old proposal. Unfortunately, we lost the suit when the Service “finalized” the proposal by withdrawing it.
